An old video on Google Panda, but still very relevant in today Search Engine Optimization strategies.
What should a site owner do if they think they might be affected by Panda?
This video talks about recent integration of Google’s Panda update into its normal indexing process. But, how would a site owner know if his site has been hit by Panda? And if the site has been already hit then how would the site owner know if it has recovered from Panda? Let’s have a look at some of the main points covered in this video:
- The panda is a change that was rolled out a few years ago and targeted towards lower quality content and it used to be that Google would have an update roughly every month or so whenever the Google Team had something new launched, new data and used to refresh it.
- Finally, it got to a point that with Panda the changes were getting smaller and they were more incremental. The Google Webmaster Team had pretty good signals about the low-hanging winds. So, there were a lot of really big changes going on with the latest Panda update.
- So, the Team decided that rather than making it a discreet data push that happens after every month or so at its own time when they refresh the data, they should rather go ahead and integrate Panda into indexing.
- The Team thinks that at this point they are only a small enough number of webmasters on the edge that are affected by Panda, so the Team agreed that they should go ahead and integrate it (Panda) to their main indexing process.
- The team has also done some videos regarding it in the past, but basically they are just looking for high quality content and if you think that your site is affected by Panda then you should know that the overall goal of writing is that you are providing high quality content.
- The type of high quality content that people really enjoy, which is something they’d love to read that you might see in a magazine or in a book, the sort of content that people would refer back to or send friends to.
- So, that is the overall goal of Panda and since it has been integrated with the indexing, that remains (becomes) the overall goal of our entire indexing system.
Here are a few things you can do to improve your rankings if they’re affected by Panda:
- If you’re not ranking as highly as you were in the past then overall it’s always a good idea to look at the quality of content on your site and find out if there’s any derivative, scraped or duplicate content (these are part of Black Hat SEO) on the site and just not as useful.
- Always try to come up with something that’s original, useful and something that people would love to read and come back to your website.
- Panda is all about providing users with very useful content do that and your site won’t be affected by it.
